As this month comes to a close, we thought we'd recap all of the exciting new features and improvements we made across Stream Video and Moderation.

Introducing the VP9 SVC Codec 🎥

We're excited to announce that VP9 SVC is now available in our JavaScript, React, and React Native SDKs.

With this advanced codec, users can experience significant improvements in video reliability and performance, including reduced CPU/GPU load and lower bandwidth usage, without compromising video quality. This greatly improves the experience of users on older devices and those with bad connections.

Check out the React SDK tutorial and leverage the VP9 SVC by updating your SDK to enjoy smoother, more efficient video streaming.

New Moderation Configuration Policies Are Here 📲

The policy configuration of Stream's AI Moderation has been revamped to provide greater flexibility and precision for managing content at scale. The new flow simplifies how administrators define and customize moderation rules across text, image, and video content, ensuring a tailored approach for different use cases.

Key Features of the Configuration Flow:

  • Intuitive Policy Setup: Administrators can now easily create, edit, and apply moderation rules using a step-by-step interface. This empowers teams to define thresholds for violations, select penalty actions, and assign specific moderators to cases without navigating complex configurations.
  • Granular Content Controls: From keyword detection in chat to inappropriate imagery in streams, each content type can have distinct moderation settings. This allows for a more nuanced approach, ensuring that each media type receives the attention it needs without burdening teams with unnecessary alerts.
  • AI-Powered Enhancements: The AI upgrade plays a pivotal role by offering real-time content analysis with deep learning models. It automatically flags harmful or inappropriate content based on patterns and historical data. The system improves continuously through machine learning, reducing false positives and enhancing accuracy as it processes more data.
  • Seamless Integration with Feeds and Channels: Moderation policies can be applied across all communication channels, from live streams to message feeds, ensuring consistency in content oversight regardless of where interactions take place.

These enhancements not only make moderation more robust but also reduce manual review efforts, letting your Trust & Safety team focus on the more complex moderation decisions.
