Bulk actions, filtering, notes, and shortcuts

This lesson shows how to work more efficiently as a moderator by using bulk actions, filters, notes, and keyboard shortcuts. You’ll learn how to apply decisions to multiple items at once, narrow your view to the most urgent content, document context for your team, and speed up navigation in the dashboard. Together, these tools help you manage high volumes of content, maintain consistency across your team, and scale your moderation efforts as your community grows.

Moderators often face large volumes of content at once, and reviewing each item individually can quickly become overwhelming. To stay efficient and consistent, you need tools that let you manage multiple pieces of content, narrow your focus to what matters most, and track issues over time. That’s where bulk actions, filtering, notes, and shortcuts come in.

Together, these features help you process cases faster, uncover trends, and make sure your moderation efforts scale as your community grows.

Managing Content at Scale with Bulk Actions

Instead of repeating the same step hundreds of times, bulk actions let you apply a decision to multiple items at once. Moderators can apply the following bulk actions:

  • Mark reviewed
  • Unblock content
  • 24hr channel ban
  • 24hr global ban
  • Permanent channel ban
  • Permanent ban
  • Delete content
  • Delete users

Think of bulk actions as your productivity boost, freeing up time to focus on the trickier, more nuanced cases.

Use caution with bulk removals. Always double-check your selections to avoid mistakenly punishing legitimate users.

Filtering to Focus on What Matters

Filters help cut through the noise by surfacing the content that needs your attention most. From your dashboard, you can filter items by:

  • Content type (text, comments, etc.)
  • Reporter Type (flagged by users vs. flagged by AI)
  • Date
  • Category (AI Text, blocklists, etc.)
  • Entity ID
  • User ID
  • Language (english, dutch, etc.)
  • Action (flag, block, etc.)
  • Sort By (newest first, most flags, etc.)

With the right filters, you can zero in on urgent issues first, rather than sifting through harmless content.

Adding Moderator Notes

Moderator notes allow your team to capture context. Notes can include:

  • Rationale: Why you chose a specific action (e.g., “escalated due to repeated violations despite prior warnings”).
  • Context: Any details about the conversation thread or user history that influenced the decision.
  • Guidance for teammates: Suggestions on how future moderators should handle similar cases.

Notes serve as a paper trail that keeps decisions transparent, improves training for new moderators, and ensures consistency across the team.

Keyboard Shortcuts

For moderators who spend hours in the dashboard, keyboard shortcuts make navigation and actions much faster. Instead of clicking through menus, you can move quickly between items, open details, and apply actions with just a few keys.

General

  • Show keyboard shortcuts: F1
  • Toggle navigation sidebar: ⌘ + /
  • Close any modal: ESC

Moderation Queue

  • Focus on next item: ↓
  • Focus on previous item: ↑
  • Show details for selected item: ENTER
  • Select item: SPACE
  • Select or unselect all items: ⌘ + A
  • Remove focus from selected item: ESC

Context Modal

  • Show next item: ↓
  • Show previous item: ↑
  • Show next sidebar tab: →
  • Show previous sidebar tab: ←

If you’re working through long queues, using ↑ / ↓ + ENTER to scan items is far quicker than relying on a mouse.

Why These Tools Matter

Bulk actions, filters, notes, and shortcuts transform moderation from a reactive grind into a scalable, strategic workflow. They let you respond quickly to high-volume issues, prioritize urgent cases, and generate insights that strengthen your long-term policies.

Now that you’ve learned how to streamline moderation with bulk actions, filtering, notes, and shortcuts, it’s time to see how these tools all come together in practice. In the next lesson, A Day in the Life of a Moderator, we’ll walk through a real-world scenario step by step: reviewing flagged content, checking the surrounding context, applying the right action, leaving notes for your team, and closing the loop to keep your community safe and consistent.
